« Back to Glossary Index

The competitive and potentially violent relationship that results from wanting what someone else wants but will not share (mimetic desire). It tends to escalate into conflict because each rival ‘hates’ the other’s persistence. If the rivals are e.g. political factions or parties or nations the potential for all-out conflict is always looming.
